Modern Journalism Guest Lecture at School of Communications

Dr. Jerimiah F. Morris’ guest lecture on “Modern Journalism”

Dr. MorrisOn Wednesday 14 Nov. 2018, Dr. Jerimiah F. Morris, Chair of the Fine and Applied Arts Division, Mahidol University International College, gave a 2-hour guest lecture at the School of Communications, Cha-am Campus.

Dr. Morris hails from the U.S. and is an expert in Communication Studies. His main areas of teaching and research are the intersections among the media, the self and society, as well as media theory and philosophy. His talk was titled “Modern Journalism” and was given to Webster students taking the course MEDC 1010 Introduction to Mass Communications and to other interested students and faculty.

Dr. Morris set out to explain how the economic nature of the modern news industry shapes the content of newspapers and how changes in the modern news industry go hand in hand with digital convergence. With these objectives in mind, he outlined the modern history of the newspaper business, touching on topics such as the rise of the penny press, yellow journalism, media ownership and competition, conglomerates, advertising in newspapers, media convergence, media literacy, and much more. The students were much engaged in Dr. Morris’ lecture and Q/A session and appreciated his great expertise about modern journalism.
