Bangkok Rotaract Club Celebrates Inauguration

Rotaract Bangkok InaugurationOn Tuesday 30 May 2017, members of the Rotaract Club of Bangkapi hosted an inauguration for Webster University Thailand’s very own Rotaract Club at the Bangkok campus. This evening provided an opportunity for representatives from Rotary Bangkapi, university staff and student leaders from Webster’s Rotaract Club to come together in celebration and mutual recognition of their hard work and dedication. 

As a global body of business leaders and professionals, Rotary members have the specific aims of providing humanitarian services and spreading goodwill across the world. With more than 1.2 million active members located in all corners of the globe, Rotarians undertake an extraordinary amount of humanitarian, educational, and cultural activities in their respective communities. Rotaract (Rotary’s service club program for young adults) has more than 180,000 members in 165 countries. Similar to Rotarians, Rotaract members also have a specific focus on providing support services for the betterment of local communities.

Sjoerd VerstegeTo kick off the evening’s proceedings, members from the Webster University Rotaract Club were presented with the official Rotaract charter certificate. They were then warmly welcomed to the Rotary family by a number of preeminent individuals including District Governor Jason Lim, and Assistant District Governor Santi Chatterjee. The four Rotary guiding principles were also presented as a reminder of the underlying ethos and values of the club i.e. truth, fairness, goodwill and being beneficial to all. The evening finished with informal discussions and networking with everyone present.

In attendance from Webster University Thailand was Interim Rector Dr. Keith Welsh, Director of Student Affairs Philip Gwaltney, Academic Director Dr. Nisha Ray Chaudhury, Overseas Director Dr. James Jain, Student Affairs Executive Supranee Namuangrak, and lecturer Dr. Leslie Klieb. Also in attendance was Webster Thailand's Bangkok Rotaract Club student leadership team consisting of President Sjoerd Verstege, Vice President Jamila Francesca Romero, Treasurer Amritpreet Singh, Public Relations Manager Faiq Bin Zahid, and Community Service Chair Gladney Admripreet Singh. All Webster representatives pledged to uphold and promote goodwill within the local community following the formalization of the club. It was also recognized the there is a need for strong vision, unity and support amongst members and that this should be adhered to as much as possible.

Webster Thailand would like to thank thank President Charles Ooms, President Elect Joe Goh, Past District Governor Krit Indhewat and Advisor Willem Adolfs from Rotary Bangkapi for their long-term support and guidance.
