Webster Thailand International Relations Students at Pan Asia Model United Nations Conference

2016 Pan Asia Model United Nations ConferenceWebster University Thailand prides itself as being an institution that encourages students to develop into strong global citizens no matter what their academic discipline. In an effort to achieve this goal, students are supported to pursue any number of extra-curricular activities, whether they are sport, creative pursuits or academic development.

For Webster Thailand students Solomiya Dzera and Cassie Dodge, their enthusiasm and drive saw them selected as delegates for the 2016 Pan Asia Model United Nations Conference during Fall semester. Held in Taipei, Taiwan from 8-11 December 2016, this conference provided Solomiya and Cassie with a unique opportunity to engage with hundreds of other students from around the world in a real life simulation of an actual United Nations meeting.

2016 Pan Asia Model United Nations ConferenceModel United Nations conferences, such as the one attended by Solomiya and Cassie, are hosted each year to provide students with real life diplomatic experience that not only test but also develop their critical decision-making. Just like the real United Nations, delegates represent a country and are required to push that country’s policies and agenda throughout the relevant sessions. Webster University Thailand’s representatives were assigned by the organizers to represent Venezuela in the Security Council Committee – no easy feat!

Faculty members at Webster University Thailand place a strong importance on ensuring that all graduates are able to ‘hit the ground running’ as soon as they conclude their studies. As such, the university provides all students with numerous opportunities throughout their degree to participate in regional conferences, seminars, events and internships. These experiences not only assist in developing students into more well-rounded individuals, but also assists in the formation of other attributes such as self-confidence and public speaking.

Solomiya and Cassie further expressed their sincere thanks to Dr. Keith Welsh, Webster Thailand's Rector and Dr. Kenneth Houston, Head - College of Arts & Sciences for supporting them in their attendance to Taiwan and helping them to achieve their goals.
