A Taste of Home: Webster’s 2017 International Food Fair

Food Fair 2017On Wednesday 15 February 2017, Webster University Hua Hin / Cha Am hosted its popular International Food Fair. Held in February each year, the food fair provides students from around the world with the chance to showcase and sell some of the most delicious dishes that their country has to offer.

Organized by the Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Affairs, the event is always very well attended and a highlight on the social calendar for both staff and students alike. With more than ten stalls selling a diverse array of foods from all over the globe, the fair was a clear representation of the vibrant campus life that students of Webster University Thailand experience on a daily basis.

Food Fair 2017This year saw delectable traditional foods and desserts on sale from countries not just within Asia, but also as far afield as Europe and the United States. Other countries represented included Myanmar, Bhutan, China, Korea, Japan, India, Russia, Denmark and Thailand – a truly multicultural affair! Such variety highlights the diversity of cultures, languages and experiences of Webster University students. With students from more than 60 different nations studying at Webster University Thailand, campus life consistently provides opportunities to learn more about other ways of life and the Food Fair celebrates that diversity by bringing everyone together to literally get a taste of a wide range of cultures.

Food Fair 2017To add an element of competition to the day’s proceedings, students running each of the stalls were engaged in friendly rivalry to win the coveted prizes for ‘most delicious food / dessert’. Additional prizes were also given for ‘most popular vote’ as decided by the Webster University Thailand community.

Food Fair prize winners are:

  1.  Supaporn (Anne) Chuapoodee - Thailand stall
  2.  Wai Pwint Wabo - Myanmar stall
  3.  Younten Phuntsho - Bhutan stall

Given the piles of empty plates and smiling faces, the 2017 International Food Fair was a huge success. We hope to see many of you again next year for more delicious food from around the world!
