Annual Counselor Workshop and Retreat, February 2017 - Hua Hin
Webster University Thailand is hosting its bi-annual counselor workshop from February 5-7, 2017 in Hua Hin Thailand and this year we are delighted to have with us Melanie Gottlieb, Deputy Director of AACRAO, as the key speaker. Melanie will conduct an interactive session: The US Higher Education Outlook for 2017: Impact and advice for students. The US Presidential election of 2016 generated worldwide attention and resulted in a collective gasp heard across the globe. Within the context of global mobility trends, we will discuss the post-inaugural outlook for US Higher education and share practical thoughts and advice for students planning to study abroad at a U.S. college or university.
We will also have a session with Professor Chase Conrad, our counselor at WUT, who will present on the topic Interpersonal and Psychological Problems of incoming College Students from Asian and Western Backgrounds. The core theme of this lecture will draw upon Professor Conrad’s personal experiences here at Webster University counseling incoming students of Asian and Western backgrounds and the specific interpersonal and psychological problems that are present in these populations. The goal of this presentation is to have a gathering of the minds to cultivate therapeutic strategies that would benefit incoming freshman and to also present preventive therapies which prepare individuals for likely pitfalls they may face when entering a university setting for the first time. The lecture format will be interactive involving all participants to share and draw upon their past experiences in hopes of gaining a better grasp on the mental health problems that face this college-bound population.
In addition to these topics Webster will also have a session dedicated to the information about various campuses of Webster University including the USA, European and African campuses. Samrat Ray Cahudhuri, Director of Global Recruitment will conduct the session. Based on recommendations from counselors attending the previous workshops we will keep an interactive session with our students and an opportunity to visit our housings.
