This free event provided an opportunity for new and old students to mingle, get to know one other, and make new friends.

Held at SALA, a Webster University Thailand Cha-Am/Hua Hin campus  housing, students were also able to meet with faculty members and staff from across the university. Over the course of the evening students spent their time learning more about their enrolled courses, better understanding the sports clubs on offer, and connecting with other students. It also provided study abroad students a chance to develop friendships and networks with local students that will hopefully last well beyond the duration of their studies.

The staff and faculty at Webster University Thailand understand that the transition to university, especially in a foreign country, can be both daunting and intimidating. As such, the university developed a series of activities as part of Webster’s 2016 Fall Orientation. The BBQ Party was organized as an official event as part of this important program.

During the previous week, students also enjoyed a tour of the picturesque local area, met professors and other academic personnel, signed up for classes and heard from some of the university’s most senior figures. Each of these activities acted as a chance to hear about the opportunities, diversity, global perspectives and study abroad options that are available to all students.

Webster University Thailand is home to students from more than 60 countries including Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Russia and the USA. This diversity makes Webster a melting pot of cultures, ideas and unique perspectives. The organizers of this BBQ hope that this event is but the first of numerous opportunities that students will have to relax, unwind and develop global networks across the university.
