Program Structure

The MBA degree requires satisfactory completion of 12 courses (36 credit hours) of the MBA curriculum. An MBA with an area of specialization requires at least 17 courses (51 credit hours), consisting of core MBA coursework plus the emphasis requirements.

Duration of studies and full time enrollment

The maximum course load in a graduate degree program for a fully admitted student is 6 credit hours per term or 9 credit hours in a 16 week course. Webster University Thailand offers 4 terms a year plus one optional summer term. A student must be enrolled in 18 credits per year to be considered a full time student. Students enrolled in the General MBA (36 credit hours) will typically complete the program between 18 and 24 months. A student must receive written authorization to enroll in more than 6 credit hours per term or more than 12 credit hours per semester. Webster University Thailand does not currently offer the one year MBA program.

The required courses in the General MBA program are:

  • MNGT 5590 Organizational Behavior (3 credit hours)
  • BUSN 5760 Applied Business Statistics (3 credit hours)
  • FINC 5000 Finance (3 credit hours)
  • FINC 5880 Advanced Corporate Finance (3 credit hours)
  • MNGT 5990 Corporate Responsibility and society (3 credit hours)
  • BUSN 6070 Management Accounting (3 credit hours)
  • BUSN 6110 Operations and Project Management (3 credit hours)
  • BUSN 6120 Managerial Economics (3 credit hours)
  • BUSN 6200 Strategy and Competition (3 credit hours)
  • BUSN 6140 Business Research Analysis (3 credit hours)
  • BUSN 6250 Thesis (3 credit hours)

Students who have no academic background in business, economics and accounting, are required to take 3 prerequisite courses before they begin the coursework for the MBA that do not count in the 36 credit hours of the MBA program.

Prerequisites:

  • BUSN 5000 Business (3 credit hours)
  • BUSN 5600 Accounting Theory and Practice (3 credit hours)
  • BUSN 5620 Current Economic Analysis (3 credit hours)

If the appropriate prerequisite course content was completed more than five years prior to entering the program, the department will allow a waiver if the student demonstrates command of the content area by successfully completing a waiver examination. 

Area of Emphasis

Requirements for an area of emphasis in the MBA program include the MBA core (36 credit hours), the core requirements for the emphasis area, and any prerequisites that are required. An MBA with an emphasis requires a minimum of 52 credit hours.

Emphasis in Marketing

Eighteen courses (54 credit hours). The MBA with emphasis in Marketing includes 8 courses (24 credit hours) of additional classes connecting the MBA with marketing practices. Students pursuing an emphasis in marketing are expected to defend a thesis on a topic related to marketing or with a substantial marketing component at the end of their program.

The MBA with an emphasis in marketing must include the following courses:

  • MRKT 5610 Marketing Channel Management (3 credit hours)
  • MRKT 5720 Promotional Management (3 credit hours)
  • MRKT 5730 International Marketing (3 credit hours)
  • MRKT 5740 Management of Digital Marketing (3 credit hours)
  • MRKT 5850 Marketing Research (3 credit hours) replacing BUSN 6250- Thesis
  • MRKT 5895 Marketing Analytics (3 credit hours)
  • MRKT 5960 Marketing Management (3 credit hours)
  • MRKT 6000 Integrated Studies in Marketing  (3 credit hours)

Emphasis in Human Resources Management

Eighteen courses (51 credit hours). The MBA with emphasis in Human Resources Management encompasses 5 courses (15 credit hours) specific to today’s human resources challenges. Students pursuing an emphasis in Human Resources Management are expected to defend a thesis on a topic related to HR Management at the end of their program.

The MBA with an emphasis in human resource management must include the following courses:

  • HRMG 5000 Managing Human Resources
  • HRDV 5610 Training and Development (3 credit hours)
  • HRMG 5700 Employment Law (3 credit hours)
  • HRMG 5800 Staffing (3 credit hours)
  • HRMG 5920 Compensation (3 credit hours)
  • HRMG 5930 Labor-Management Relations (3 credit hours)
  • HRMG 6000 Integrated Studies in Human Resources (3 credit hours) replacing BUSN 6250- Thesis

Emphasis in Information Technology Management

Seventeen courses (51 credit hours). The MBA with emphasis in Information Technology Management encompasses 7 courses (21 credit hours) specific to emerging and converging information and communications technologies. Students pursuing an emphasis in Information Technology Management are expected to defend a final project on an IT related topic at the end of their program.

The MBA with an emphasis in information technology management must include the following courses:

  • ITM 5000 Information Technology Management: Overview (3 credit hours)
  • ITM 5100 Information and Communications Systems and Networks (3 credit hours)
  • ITM 5200 Project Management of Information Technology (3 credit hours)
  • ITM 5300 Procurement and Contract Management for Information Technology (3 credit hours)
  • ITM 5400 Systems Analysis, Design and Implementation (3 credit hours)
  • ITM 5600 Information and Communications Security (3 credit hours)
  • ITM 6000 Final Project in Information Technology (3 credit hours) replacing BUSN 6250- Thesis
