Hua Hin – Paradise City

The town of Hua Hin is located approximately 200 kilometers south of Bangkok on the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand.
It is the oldest, and most traditional, resort destination in Thailand with the attractions of a modern holiday destination mixed with the charms of an older fishing village from which it draws its roots.

History

Hua Hin was transformed from this fishing village into a Royal resort destination during the reign of King Rama VI (1910 – 1925), as a getaway from the busy metropolis of Bangkok.  This resulted in the construction of the Royal Hua Hin Railway station, still standing today in its entire original splendor, in the 1920´s.  This was soon followed by the construction of the Klai Kangwon (Far from worries) Palace by King Rama VII (1926), which remains as the official Royal Residence, to this day, and is what has given Hua Hin its very unique identity.

Due to HRM King Adulyadej Bhumibol´s presence, the town is generally fortified by garrisons of troops including an elite parachute regiment, the Air Arm of the Royal Thai Police, and naval destroyers resulting in a virtually non-existent crime rate.

The colonial style railway hotel was built in 1923 by the State Railway Authority and still stands today as the Centara Sofitel Resort.  In 1924 Hua Hin´s first golf course was opened – the Royal Hua Hin, so that Royalties could host visiting dignitaries.  Currently Hua Hin has 7 world class golf courses, with more under development, easily making it the highest density for golf anywhere in Thailand.  Green fees and other costs remain competitive and offer outstanding maintenance and services.  Hua Hin is also graced by leading resort and spa chains such as the Hilton, Hyatt, Marriot, and the Chiva Som which make it an idyllic vacation destination.

The surrounding regions of Hua Hin offer incredible natural resources, such as the azure ocean, stunning white sand beaches, outstanding nation reserves, jungle-clad hills, forests, waterfalls, caves and a plethora of fauna and flora.  Traditional monuments such as palaces and temples are also within easy reach of the town, all providing the makings of excellent excursions.

Despite being Thailand´s oldest beach and holiday resort, the town has managed to keep a relatively low profile, being the preferred destination for laid-back family holiday makers, travelers and of course wealthy, affluent Thais.

How to Get Here
Hua Hin is just a two hour drive from Bangkok, due to a fabulous new 6 lane motorway which is almost completed.  This makes it an easy commute for both domestic and international travelers, especially those arriving at the fabulously new Suvarnabhumi International Airport which recently opened in Bangkok.  However Hua

Hin is also conveniently linked to Bangkok and Phuket through domestic jumper flights that take just 45 minutes from Bangkok and fly 3 times a day.

Infrastructure
The Hua Hin Market Village opened early in 2007 offering a large variety of brand named clothing and goods previously unavailable in Hua Hin.  This huge complex also features a 4000 sqm Tesco Lotus Superstore, a HomePro, a Major Cineplex and BowlingCenter along with world famous restaurants and clothing stores.  All these developments are helping further enhance Hua Hin´s ever growing popularity for tourism.
